To 1 Saly time, Joal is the fatherland of the first President of the Republic of Senegal, Léopold Sedar Senghor, Poet and Academician. It is made conspicuous by its port which dates from the XV° century. Its beaches bordered of coconuts and the accumulation of the shells adds a charm to this small village of hurdy-gurdies houses on floors. Fadiouth, the island with the shells, is connected to Joal by a footbridge. It is characterized by its attics with millet on pile, its streets, its mangroves, baobab trees and coconuts is one of these places which knew to preserve its authenticity best.
